Thank you so much for your generous gift of therapy equipment for our Inpatient Cancer and Blood Disorders Unit (CBDC). The items are in constant use, allowing our patients to make faster progress in their rehabilitation and recovery!

The nested stairs pictured below have been invaluable in helping patients safely practice stair climbing. This tool enables them to gradually work up to full stair heights, especially after surgery or when dealing with peripheral neuropathy, without having to leave the unit—even when their blood counts are low.

Additionally, the full-sized portable mirror recently helped a patient recovering from a stroke to improve their balance and posture, sitting at midline on the edge of the bed—an important first step toward regaining mobility. Last week, the blue wedge supported another patient in lying on their stomach to stretch their hips following a leg amputation related to a bone tumor. Achieving full range of motion is crucial for patients aiming to walk or run later with a prosthetic. The mobile arm support is currently assisting a patient recovering from shoulder surgery, allowing them to regain arm function with less pain during initial movements.

Our entire team is deeply grateful to have these essential tools to enhance patient care. The support from the Blake Pottle Foundation has had a profound and lasting impact on our patients’ lives and enables our therapy team to provide the highest level of care.

With sincere gratitude, Madelaine Stoer Supervisor, Inpatient Cancer and Blood Disorders Center Therapies(and the rest of the team: Chelsea, Lindsay, Megan, Janine, Laura, and Julie!)
